Diagnosis Denied.

Do you like that show "Mystery Diagnosis?" Does it make you feel good to know that if you persist with strange systems your doctor can't figure out, you can keep at the medical professionals until they figure out what's wrong?

Don't get used to it. With Obama's Health Care plan, if you're not sick with something common, you probably won't get treatment. Obama's Health Care plan is basically a patient budget for your doctor. Once they have reached the limit of your budget, all testing will cease or else your doctor will be penalized.

Doctors like the ones on "House" will have only a few chances to get your diagnosis right until the tests they authorize begin to rack up cash penalties, not to mention the associated paperwork.

Here's hoping your doctor gets it right the first or second time.

The Rib Saga!

For my sister's birthday, we smoked some ribs in my nephew's new smoker. We were practicing for Thanksgiving when we'll smoke a turkey.

I made a homemade dry rub to put on the ribs and mustard binds it to the meat (the mustard cooks away so you don't taste it).

Here is Josh messing with the smoker and the mesquite wood chips he was using.

Yep, it was smokin'.Here are the finished ribs. Look pretty good, don't they? We got the ribs from Castle's in Chase City. If you need any kind of meat, go there. The place is awesome!
My plate. Half a rack of baby back ribs, baked potato and baked beans. Check out the creepy face reflection in the knife!Kristy's Memphis-Style Rib Rub recipe:
2 Tbsp kosher salt
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp paprika
3/4 Tsp garlic powder
1-1/2 Tsp onion powder
1/2 Tsp cumin
1 Tsp ground black pepper
1/4 Tsp cayenne pepper

The Lowest of the Low.

I'm not a huge Bill O'Reilly fan. I'm more prone to watching Glenn Beck rant about things we probably don't know about. O'Reilly actually gives more people the benefit of the doubt than I think they deserve.

A guy named Matthew Littman, which Fox News identifies as a "democratic strategist" was on an episode of O'Reilly when Mike Huckabee was sitting in. Huckabee has some great ideas. When I Google this Littman asshole, the first thing that comes up is the Huffington Post. To me, that puts him way past a "democratic strategist." That puts him in the category of "loon!"

It's one thing that people have different views. I can handle that. But the personal attacks against Sarah Palin have really made me think less of many of my fellow Americans. And this jerk sinks to the level of making it sexist in this segment:

What makes this even worse is that tonight, this jerk-oid was on again and said this time that he'd only listen to what Palin had to say when she was one of the contestants on Flavor Flav's show.

This is the lowest type of low when it comes to the male gender. He thinks he's being cute and smart, even smiling while Laura Ingram calls him out on it, but he doesn't realize he demeans every woman out there. He claimes it's not a personal attack and that just shows you how stupid and sexist he is because he doesn't even realize it. He'd never make a comment like that about a man.

I'm not a card-carrying feminist or anything, but sometimes, things just really rile me up. This was one of them.

Class Project

Yes, I have a Master's Degree in Multimedia. That's from 2002. And computer technology changes so fast, I hadn't really kept up with the video aspect. So I took a Final Cut Pro class at Southern Virginia Higher Education Center in South Boston. The class didn't include any video shooting so I had to scrounge up digital video from my iMac to use. Then I had to make some kind of sense of all the footage I had. This is what I came up with:

Hottie of the Week!

I guess at this rate, he should be Hottie of the Month, or maybe Hottie of the Summer, since I don't post these that often. I think if I post one each week, that just belittles the ones I choose. Then again, if I post one a week, that's more hot guys to watch out for! Hmm, dilemmas.

This is Jared Padalecki, of the TV show "Supernatural," that I've never watched. Might have to check it out now. (He's formerly of "Gilmore Girls," too.) I just saw the latest "Friday the 13th" installment. #12! Do you believe it? It's a pretty good horror movie. No surprises, nothing new, just a well-made, well-acted, kill-all-the-teenagers bloodbath-in-the-dark kind of movie.

But it's also got Danielle Panabaker (Shark's daughter in the old TV show of the same name) and Amanda Righetti (now of "The Mentalist"), both of which I like very much. And if you know me at all, you know I'm really picky on the actresses I like. Don't like many.

If you like hot guys, though, "Friday the 13th" is well worth the rental fee just for Jared. But don't get upset, coz he's not even in the first half-hour of the movie. Still good, tho. This movie harkens back to the first two, which were just plain ole horror movies, nothing too crazy, with lots of teenagers having sex and pretending to be camping. Still worth it for the actual "actors" in it, not to be confused with the soft-porn stars for the non-acting parts! lol.

The Rose Diaries

A rose bush came with our house when we bought it. We've never done anything with it. People say roses are hard, so we didn't bother. They always bloomed except for last year, when there was only one flower on it. I think that's because the previous hear someone had run over the bush with the lawn mower.

But this year, wow, it just bloomed all over the place. The branches and roses are heavy so the whole thing just sagged to the ground. I didn't think that was very attractive so I decided to get a trellis for it.

Have you priced trellises lately? A 4-foot 3-pronged single-sided metal one from Lowe's was over $10, and I wanted more than just a single-sided one. Thought about putting two or three together, but rejected that for price reasons.

Decided to make my own for a few bucks and a few wooden dowels and ta-da. Here it is.

I figure since I paid attention to it, the roses will most certainly die now. Oh well...

Always a comedy routine...

On Sunday, I planted a small azalea plant my sister gave me. Pretty, eh?

Even though it had been raining, the ground was pretty hard, so I dug out my dad's old pick axe, which of course, broke with my first swing.
The handle was completely rotted out. I'm afraid it's not the only tool in the shed that's like that. I'll have to buy new tools, which has it's advantages!

Fancy Nancy by Mike Huckabee

Here's a story about a lady named Nancy
A ruthless politician, but dressed very fancy
Very ambitious, she got herself elected Speaker
But as for keeping secrets, she proved quite a "leaker."

She flies on government planes coast to coast
And doesn't mind that our economy is toast
She makes the Air Force squire her in their military jets
There's room for her family, her staff, and even her pets.

Until now, she annoyed us, but her gaffes were mostly funny;
Even though it was painful to watch her waste our tax money.
But now her wacky comments are no laughing matter;
She's either unwilling to tell the truth, or she's mad as a hatter!

She sat in briefings and knew about enhanced interrogation;
But claims she wasn't there, and can't give an explanation.
She disparages the CIA and says they are a bunch of liars;
Even the press aren't buying it and they're stoking their fires.

I think Speaker Pelosi has done too much speaking;
And instead of her trashing our intelligence officials, it's her nose that needs tweaking.

If forced to believe whether the CIA and her colleagues in Congress are lying;
Or it's Speaker Pelosi whose credibility and career is dying.
I believe in the integrity of the men and women who sacrifice to keep us safe;
Not the woman who has been caught flat-footed, lying to our face.

I say it here and I say it rather clear-
It's time for Nancy Pelosi to resign and get the heck out of here.

No job yet.

Well, not a paying one, anyway. You really get a lot done around the house when you've been laid off. Things like sweeping the pine pollen off the porches, spraying the deck with bug spray to keep the spiders away, killing bumble bees that dive-bomb you when you're coming to the door. Tomorrow, I'm thinking, dye my roots (ha, I never said I was a natural blonde) and spray the driveway with weed killer?! Oooh fun! Oh, and send out a few resumes. I seriously need a road trip! Anybody want to go camping?

Thursday, April 2, 2009

Consider me unemployed.

I got laid off. It sucks big time. I actually pretty much liked that job. I was totally blind-sided on this one. Didn't see it coming. They'd save way more money if they got rid of certain publishers that can't even update the online calendar as to what is printing when. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! If you can even figure out a computer and Google enough to even FIND this blog! ha!

Oh, but I'm not bitter.

Perhaps I can become a published author now that I have time to write. And edit. And fool around on Facebook.

When in Rome...

Okay, I give up. I did it. I joined Facebook. I seriously see it taking up ALL of my time! It's very addictive. And you can find all sorts of people from your past. Which can be good and bad. But you can also annoy people, which is kinda fun sometimes. So if you don't wanna be found, don't go there! Otherwise.... watch out for the Pillow Fights!

To Facebook or Not to Facebook

Pondering whether to sign up on Facebook. It seems everyone I went to high school with is hanging around there. So if I want to hook up with them, that's the place to be. But wait, most of them treated me like crap in high school. Are these people I want to associate with anyway? Just coz we're adults? Who says they aren't still assholes? Well, thanks to, I've found the few people I actually LIKED back then. So... dilemma, dilemma. Do I want to show them who has become a better person, or do I just not care enough to try? Hm. Are any of them worth it?

Political quote of the day

"The goverment has dug a hole and put you in it!" - Mike Huckabee

6 Degrees from Me (#237)

Okay, maybe not #237, I just made that number up. I really don't have 236 more examples of everyone being 6 degrees or less removed from me. But I do have a good example here:

Ever since Scott McIntyre performed "Mandolin Rain" on American Idol this past week, I have had that song running thru my head. YES! I have a Bruce Hornsby story....

In 1987, I was living in Portsmouth, VA with my sister and dating a guy named Jeff Grey. He was a sound technician-cum-musician who did sound for a local band called the Smith-Wade Band. He also (according to him) did sound on Bruce Hornsby's original demo for his 1986 album, "The Way It Is," which ended up featuring "Mandolin Rain." In fact, he had Bruce Hornsby's baby grand piano in his living room.

Unfortunately, I didn't start journaling my life until 1988 so I don't have any first-hand accounts of that time, but after I went off to college, I did once get a drunken phone call from Jeff. I might have that written down somewhere!

Glam Boy Done Good!

I seem to have a soft spot for glammed-up pretty boys. Oh well. Adam Lambert is my favorite "American Idol" contestant. Now, the relatively normal looking Danny Gokey is a very close 2nd, but that probably has more to do with his soulful voice and bespeckled eyes! I am SO hoping it comes down to these two in the end!

Quote of the Day

From Greg Gutfeld at the Daily Gut:

If only our American politicians knew that by feeding the beast called world opinion, it only makes our international critics greedier and our country less powerful.
Sometimes when he's sober, he's downright, well, right!
